Olive oil has been around as long as we can remember. Early civilizations such as the Persians and the Greeks were using it over 4000 years ago. Today, it is a staple oil used for many ethnic culinary cuisines. Olive oil can be used even beyond cooking. So what are the benefits of Olive Oil?
Health Benefits. Research shows that consumption of about 2 tablespoons of olive oil daily can help to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. Administrations such as the US FDA allows olive oil producers to place these on their product labels. When compared to other oils or fatty acids of animal and plant origin, research has shown to suggest it contributes to a lowered risk of mortality.
Hair Benefits. Olive oil can help to moisturize dry hair, and protect it. We're not saying to dunk your head in a tub of olive oil. Don't go crazy, but a little bit.
Slip and Slide Alternative. In the summer, kids love to set up a tarp or surface on the grass, fill it with a hose of running water, and then run and slide on it. It's loads of fun! In a drought? No worries at all. Just spread a little olive oil over the surface, and you'll be slipping and sliding in no time!
Moving through a Crowd. For those who live in crowded cities, nothing is more painful than slowly moving from home to work, and work to home on the subways and streets. Pour some olive oil on yourself, and you can slide into the last train car that's filled with people. You'll be home in no time.
Slippery Handshakes. Interactions between the east and west have its differences. A firm handshake can sometimes be too firm, and let's be honest, sometimes we don't want to hold hands with another person for too long. What to do? No problem. Just carry a small vile of olive oil and oil up before your next handshake. Your friend will be grasping for your palm, and slipping away faster than the kids on the olive oil slip and slide from point 3.
Cooking. We can't forget about cooking. Though olive oil has a lower heat tolerance than other oils, it's health benefits outweigh the use of other vegetable or animal based oils. Shallow fries are still possible, so as long as you watch carefully when you cook.
Dieting. Believe it or not, olive oil is great for those seeking to lose weight or at least those seeking to live a healthier lifestyle. Take about 3-5 tablespoons of olive oil and grease up the handles to your refrigerator and also oil up about 3 square feet around the base as well. You'll think twice before heading to the fridge for your favorite ice cream at 12:30AM. For all fatty foods such as burgers, pizza, fries, and fried chicken, take about 5 cups of olive oil, put it in a pot, and let your newly purchased fast food soak in there for about an hour before eating. You'll be way less excited to eat the food. When you are walking on the street and see that place you've been craving, just spread some olive oil in your eyes. The sting and burn will redirect your attention to getting to the nearest sink or hospital.
